Level I: Companion Foundations Training

To Be With: Foundations in Death & Grief Doula Companioning

This is where the work begins — in presence. Level I is designed for those new to doula and companion work, or those looking to deepen and strengthen what they already carry. We move through the essential landscape of grief and end-of-life care through an equity- and justice-centered lens, honoring the full spectrum of what it means to be human in the face of loss and death.

This is not just information. It is formation. We do not simply teach you what grief is — we invite you into an embodied relationship with it, so that you can companion others without flinching, without fixing, and without leaving.

This work asks you to be present to what most people run from. Level I teaches you how to stay.

Our licensed therapists provide individualized therapy sessions to help you manage anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns. We use evidence-based techniques to help you achieve long-term mental wellness.

What We'll Explore

  • The role, responsibilities, and ethical scope of practice for a death doula and grief companion
  • Grief in all its forms — anticipatory, disenfranchised, traumatic, ambiguous, spiritual, and more
  • How grief lives in the body, the spirit, the emotions, and the social world
  • End-of-life planning conversations — advance directives, VSED, MAID, body disposition
  • The structure and purpose of hospice and palliative care systems
  • Culturally responsive, trauma-informed presence at the end of life
  • Ritual, memory work, and embodied practice in grief support
  • Your own values, biases, and the risk of burnout in this sacred work
